About Me

About Richard Cruz

Hello, I’m Richard, I’m married, have two children and live in southern Spain. I became a counsellor/therapist in my mature years after the loss of my first wife to cancer and a realisation that personal changes needed to happen. Feeling fulfilled and balanced back then was only a dream; all I knew was that life could not go on as it had. As I began to grow and develop and overcome emotional obstacles in my training and seeing the world through different eyes, I realised my personal and human potential in general IF we look inside and get to know our true selves as best we can.

I have come to understand that we are all to some extent dominated by patterns from childhood and traumatic experiences but we all have amazing possibilities to move on with our lives. I consider myself to be in recovery in sexual and relationship issues which paradoxically gives me the gift of working with people who suffer in these domains and support them in finding resolve, peace, strength and will to go on. I am currently a member of the SAA 12-Step programme in Marbella.

Professionally I am a BACP Accredited counsellor/psychotherapist and COSRT Accredited psychosexual therapist working with adult individuals and couples in Marbella. Based on the Costa del Sol I maintain a virtual practice in London, United Kingdom, I work long and short term with clients on a wide range of mental health and sexual issues.

In the UK I have counselled at Kingston University, Surrey County Council and several agencies in central London. I have now been in private practice for over 10 years, 5 of which were in London's centre for medical excellence, Harley Street,

I have a wide international client base and range of experience with men and women of all ages (17 upwards) ethnic and cultural backgrounds and sexualities. I practice predominantly in the English language but have a good working knowledge of Portuguese and an understanding of Spanish.

My work is bound by a code of ethics as required by the BACP (The British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy), COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists) and the ECCa (European Certificate of Counsellor Accreditation). I am in clinical supervision and attend regular professional development workshops to enhance abilities to work with specific issues and I am fully insured.
